Working Holiday Visa Australia
What are the benefits of getting a real job on the working holiday visa in Australia?
So you’d rather not pick grapes…Picture yourself starting or boosting your career with international work experience in your chosen industry. Think of the benefits of returning from a year overseas, having not only enjoyed the travel but also gained valuable professional work experience which counts on your résumé. When faced with attending job interviews, it would look a lot more impressive than, say, a stint overseas doing bar work or getting paid peanuts for picking fruit.
Professional work experience in a country such as Australia amounts to a whole package of benefits. It expands your learning not only in a professional sense but also in more personal ways. It teaches you valuable lessons about your abilities, boosts your confidence and gives you a whole new perspective on your work and life and the world in general. And you would have earned a decent wage in the process.
How manybackpackers do you know can knock off work for the weekend and afford to go to the cricket, a show or a decent restaurant?
It’s a lot more feasible than you probably think. It’s simply a matter of changing your approach and swapping your backpack for a briefcase.

Hi there,
I’m at Australia now at Melbourne for holiday(with working holiday visa 417) and I had completed B.E of Electrical Engineering at 2008 from Egypt , can I work as Electrical Engineer with this visa or should I do the assessment first ?
is my degree acceptable for work ? although I have 1 years experience with this role .
Appreciate your advice
Alex – You do not need qualifications assessment or registration. So if you can find some one to employ you you can work if your visa allows this. If you have ACAD exeperience it is probably easiest to get a job as a designer rather than as an electrical engineer.
thanks for your advice,
what about labor work I’ve been looking more than 3 month I can’t find an employee, is it hard to work as a labor also or experience require ?!!
Alex – If you are prepared to work hard you should e able to get a job as a labourer. No experience required as this is unskilled work. At this time of year there is a lot of work in rural areas harvesting and picking fruit. At this time of year there are also many opportunities in shopping centres before Xmas and in holiday resorts. These jobs are not advertised. You may be able to find them through Centrelink the Government employment service, or it may be just a matter of going around shopping centres and looking for advertisments in shop windows, or just going from door to door asking. I appreciate your advice It’s really helped me, I got a job as desk support,
Now I am study more TAFE short courses so I start with CCNA course to get more knowledge and experience, So what’s your advice with my field (Electrical & Telecommunication Engineering) which TAFE course is really good for me to study?
Thank you again
Alex – As you are a professional engineer, you should be looking at post-graduate courses or specialist industry training. I would think TAFE courses are at a lower level than your current qualification. The advantage you have working in the industry is you can go along and talk to the senior engineers in the company you work with and get their advice. That will be better than any industry advice I can give you.
