Ramandeep - Your fears are well based. Buy the Project Australia Pack and follow the advice given there to obtain a better understanding of the situstion. In Australia it is more important to demonstrate your ability by doing work than to show capability by doing study. You and your wife will need to start thinking like Australians.

Presently in India I am a lecturer in an engg. college it is good job and respectable job here, but I am fearing that if i will not get job in australia things won't shape good for either of us as my wife was earlier in Australia & she was unable to get any job as where ever she went for seeking job, employers said she was over qualified, as she is having three three masters degrees(master in computer applications, master of arts in english, & masters in information technology. Kindly suggest me where I can manage to apply & fix an appointment with the employers before I reach Melbourne.

Mala - Bad timing is hard to beat. It is not an easy time to get a job at the moment particularly in the money world. It is not totally true that the only way you can get Australian experience is to get a job. I am an engineer, but I think the principles for transferring skills are independent of occupation. These are laid out in Project Australia - although in Project Australia they are written in an engineering context. You have to pro-actively counter the no Ozzie experience by demonstrating you know the Australian standards and practices, in theory at least, and the large proportion of the principles and practice are standard. A debt is a debt everywhere in the world. The next bit is a bit trickier. You need to demonstrate awareness of the areas where things are different. You can get a lot of information on the practices and regulations through the government law sites and professional associations. A good starting point is to have clearly on the front page of your CV that your qualifications have beve been assessed and accredited by one of the three Australian assessing authorities.
You are playing in a congested part of the labour market. Only about 30% of the jobs are advertised. It could easily be less in the current climate. Many companies advertise vacancies on their own web site - that's about another 30%. The rest is networking. So get along to places where accountants meet. There are three associations to choose from. Look up there web sites and seee what events they are having.
Maybe your CV and cover letter are not as Australian as you think. Have you checked advertisement for accountants and made sure you are using the phrases and words Australians use throughout the document. Australianising is more than formatting.

As a qualified accountant recently migrated to Australia from the UK, I have been looking for a job for over a month now, registered with recruitment consultants as well as directly applying for advertised jobs....I have received NO responses so far and I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I have tried to "Australianise" my CV and cover letters and yet all I hear back is I do not have Australian work experiance...I already know that, and the only way I can gain that is to get a job! I feel like I am chasing my tail!
