Amusha - Go to the Washington Accord website. It should be listed there. From the same site you can also follow links to the Sydney Accord site.

Saman - It will not be recognised as a professional engineer. You can look under the Sydney Accord whether it is recognised as an engineering technologist. Otherwise it is TRA.

Priyanka - In computer science you will need at least 4 years work experience. Chefs are unlikely to be wanted any more. Go to our FAQ blog page and follow the links for more information.

Shahzad - If you want to be recognised as a Linux professional any other experience is not relevant, so write about your Linux experience. Your understanding of the immigration points seems correct. You need to talk with a registered migration agent. Read all the requirements from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website. Follow the links from our FAQ blog to get all the information you need.

Hi ,

I hold 04 yrs Bachelor's degree in Mining Engg from UET Lhr.
My experience = 09 yrs in IT field (including network + linux)
Since i have a non-IT degree so i guess i have to apply via RPL.
I m trying to apply with my spouse but she won't be able to do ielts , tell me if i can apply with my spouse without her giving Ielts or without paying 2nd installament? wht i think is that if i dunt want to claim her 05 points , i can apply with her without her ielts report but then i lose 05 points .am i right?

More over 02 projects that i have to write , does it have to be based on Linux if i m claiming RPL catagory computing science (linux)? or can it be on network related other topics?

Ali - You will come under the IT professional group of occupations. You will need to look at the various IT occupations and their definitions. Got to our FAQ page and follow the links to the Australian Skills Recognition Information (ASRI) page and the Australian Computer Society (ACS) sites.

Ruyeen - Go to our FAQ page and follow the links to the Australian Skills Recognition Information (ASRI). Select occupations you consider you may be eligible for and follow the links to the assessing body. It could be VETASSESS rather than TRA depending on which country you trained in. You may even qualify as an engineering associate whcich would be assessed by Engineers Australia..

Hi Ian
I have got my skills assessment back as positive from the australian computer society and have applied for state sponsorship with WA. I am categorised as computing professional (nec) and as we all know right noe employer sponsored and critical list are the highest priority.
More over, i have been on maternity leave and on part time volutary work so I think right now I may not satisfy the recent work experience requirement.

I met a WA representative at a skills expo and she said I can gain some experience again and then reapply alittle later or i can try and find work in aus and get employer sponsorship.

Can you please advise, other that finding an employer who will sponsor, what other requirements are needed for an employer sponsored visa? Is recent work experience one of them?
Thanks

JasK - Get hold of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Booklet 6 - Follow the links from our FAQ page. Sponsorship is like applying for a job from afar. It is very hard if you do not have current experience.

Hello,
I'm a civil engineer from Nepal. I completed my undergraduate degree 14 months ago and I'm employed in different firms over this period.
I scored 7.5 in Ielts (not less than 7 in each band)...
My concern is that to get a positive result in CDR test, do u need to show that u are employed in a single firm for a specified period of time or it can be like, 4 months in one, 8 months in the other and another 2-3 months as a freelancer ( though not employed to a particular firm, I was involved in monitoring , supervision and design works on a contract basis).......
My other query is that I want to apply for the PR myself without relying on any private firms/consultancies which take a huge fee for the processing..They say that approximate cost is 10000 Aus dollars for the completion of the total process..
If I have to apply on my own, how can I have my CDR validated and by whom?

Thank you in advance for your advice

Bikesh - With that work record will may struggle to get a job in Australia. Australian like to see people who stay around for a while.
For writing CDRs Engineers Austraia will not worry how many different people you have worked for. they are interested in your engineering competence. An issue you may have is in getting your career episode reports validated. These must be validated by the employer or whoever has engaged you to do the work.

I assume in your last question you really mean who can check your CDR. It is really important to try and get someone whose native language is English. This is probably more important than them being an engineer.

The biggest risk in doing things yourself is the delays if you miss things out, especially validation of documents. It is essential that you get some one to do a complete independent check. You could try putting the whole thing together youself and just paying some one who has been through the process to do afinal check.

Archana - MODL and SOL do not recognise courses. The lists are based on occupations. The ASCO system defines occupations. You need to look at the course you have done and determine which occupation you fit under. Then look at the qualification assessment requirements provided on the Australian Skills Recognition Information (ASRI) website for that occupation. Follow the links to all this from our FAQ page.
