Scachi - You will need to have qualification accreditation successfully completed before applying for a skilled migration visa. It is not enough just to have sent in an application.

Hi!
I was just wondering if I could lodge my PR application while being on a tourist visa? My student visa expires on the 31st of Aug, however due to personal reasons I am bound to head back to my home country next month.
And is it necessary to have your CDR approved at the time of lodging or would the receipt number be just sufficient?
Thanks.

Saman - Yes. You are assessed on engineering competence, not work experience.

HI, I'm a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from Sri Lanka. I've been working as a Procurement Engineer(Mechanical) in building service Engineering company for more than 1 year. Since my job roll has 50% Engineering & 50% commercial aspect, will I be able to apply under mechanical engineering category?

Shj - In many companies the difference may not affect the job you get, but it is may affect what you are paid. It could affect eligibility for a visa because one occupation may be on the new SOL and the other excluded. This is not governed by the qualification level, but the need for particular occupations in Australia. A technologist cannot be registered on the National Professional Engineers Register (NPER) or be registered in Queensland (RPEQ). If you have completed further studies after you initial assessment you can request to be re-assessed. The practical difference in the type of work the occupations do is that the professional engineer will tend to do a greater level of planning , analysis and problem solving than an engineering technologist. The engineering technologist will generally work within a framework of developed by professional engineers.

Ritu - I know of one application recently that took 4 months, so you should hear soon. The current changes will not affect your qualifications assessment, but they certainly could affect your application for a visa.

Hi, I am an electronics engineer from India with an experience of 1.5 yrs in my field. I am currently pursuing my Masters in australia. I have an overall band of 8 in IELTS with min 7 in each. I had applied for Engineers skilled assessment (CDR) in mid-january, but haven't heard anything yet. I am very tensed. how long does it usually take for the outcome? Will the current or future changes affect my outcome in any way?

Amin - You will not be able to get a job in this industry in Australia until you have Australian citizenship, whatever the immigration requirements are. You can expect the new rules will make it harder for you. Australia wants experienced people.

Hi, I am getting may (BSc. / MSc.) in Aerospace engineering in Holland. My specialization in in the list. I have 2 questions:
1. Do I need to apply for MIGRATION SKILLS ASSESSMENT first?
2. I do not have any effective job experience, how is gonna that effect the procedure for general skill migration, I do have IELTS of 7.
Thanks
