It could affect eligibility for a visa because one occupation may be on the new SOL and the other excluded. This is not governed by the qualification level, but the need for particular occupations in Australia. A technologist cannot be registered on the National Professional Engineers Register (NPER) or be registered in Queensland (RPEQ). If you have completed further studies after you initial assessment you can request to be re-assessed. The practical difference in the type of work the occupations do is that the professional engineer will tend to do a greater level of planning , analysis and problem solving than an engineering technologist. The engineering technologist will generally work within a framework of developed by professional engineers.
