Aimar - Engineers Australia only assess qualifications for the Australian Government. They do noy issue or assess visas. The level of qualification you have, as assessed by Engineers Australia, may affect the type of visa you are eligible for. Talk to a migration agent.

Hey İan;

Do you know whether engineers australia recognises the "subclass 476 recognised graduate" visa holders? These graduations are recognised by goverment, however there is no information (either in Appendix A) about the issue. Thanks for answer..

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your reply.

I got the result from my state sponsorship application in Victoria. They denied my application for now. They think that my skills are not readily employable in Victoria but they are willing to reassess my application should I be able to obtain a valid offer of employment in my nominated occupation within Victoria which is hard to do when you are outside Australia. This is bad news but I'm not giving up. My only chance is to take again the IELTS exam and aim 7 in all subjects to be able to qualify in DIAC later on.

I would surely consider Project Australia if my application will be successful in DIAC in the near future.

Thanks again and more power.

Regards,
IGD

IGD - You should be able to get a positive assessment with Engineers Australia with your background. It depends om how well you have written your CDR. Keep working on your English. That helps you in every step of the process, especially in getting a job.
Assessment by Engineers Australia will take longer due to mailing time for the results to get to you.
be prepared for it to take 3 to 6 months to get a job. You will go around in circles for the first three months learning your way around. Buy Project Australia and follow the steps in it.
Hello Ian,

I got a 5 year Mechanical Engineering degree from Philippines. I graduated 10 years ago. Since then, I worked as a mechanical design engineer for several companies including 3 years in China. I got a total of 10 years in research and development experience working on consumer electronic products. I took my IELTS exam last March and I was able to get 8 in speaking, 7.5 in listening, 6.5 in both reading and writing. Since I got more than what Engineers Australia requires(6), I made my CDR for skills assessment. I sent my papers to Engineers Australia last week and also requested from IDP to send directly my IELTS results to Engineers Australia. I reviewed my points in DIAC but I can't make it for 175 visa point requirements since I only got 110points. So, opted to try Victoria state sponsorship 176 to qualify in DIAC.
Questions:
1. Do you think that I have a good chance in getting a positive assessment in both Engineers Australia and victoria state sponsorship?
2. Engineers Australia stated in their website that it will take 16 weeks to process my CDR. Do you think that it will really take 16 weeks in actual or this is just a maximum estimate on their side?
3. I've done some research on job market in melbourne regarding mechanical design engineers and it looks like there are quite a few openings. Do you have any idea if it's easy to find a job for a guy like me.

Any comments and suggestions from you will be highly appreciated.

Thanks Ian.

Regards,
IGD

Ian,

I have a 4 year mechanical enginering degree from India. After that I worked in a electricity utility company for 3 years. Now my interest is to work as an electrical engineer.
Now i am planning to do a Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering in Australia, gain a accredated qualification and hopefully work as an electrical engineer in Australia.Because I already have an engineering qualification, I might be able to complete by degree in 3 years as I am applying for 1 year credit under 'Recognition of prior learning'.Now will Engineers Australia accept my 3 year degree as meeting the rquirements of a professional engineer in Australia?

TD - The Australian degree will be a 4 year level qualification. Your study for 3 years + have a credit for 1 year = 4 years. You must have more money than sense to take this route. Think about getting assessed as a mechanical engineer and doing electrical engineering study part-time later.

Kikunj - In theory if your engineering course is equivalent to an Australian engineering degree you should be able to complete a CDR without any engineering work experience. Your course and project work should provide enough experience. keep in mind the competemcies are to be demonstrated at a graduate engineer level. The words in the definitions make it all seem a lot more onerous than it really is.
You need to go about CDR preparation in a very systematic way. The career episode reports are about demonstrating engineering competencies. I suggest you look to write two reports about projects or specific incidents or problems you have solved (your final year project can be one of these) and one about one of your work experience. Select and write three outlines. Each about ten one line points. Then work out what competencies you will be able to demonstrate from each point. next complete the Summary Report. From this you will see which competencies you have demonstrated many times and which competencies you have missed. Revise you point form outline until you are satisfied that you have covered all competencies as well as you can. the CER about your work experience will provide a good opportunity to include competencies not include in project work.

Hi Ian,
I am a bit confused how to go further in my career, so Lalit (IDP melbourne) referred you to me.I have done Mechanical engineering in my graduate from India and I am currently doing MBA (1.5 years) from Deakin University. I am in my final semester of my course and have do decide what to do next. I am not interested in making my career in management field and want to get back to technical. I was looking forward to asses my engineering degree in Australia but i dont have any experience all I have is the 2months practical trainings (twice) and a major project that I did during my course. When i went through the CDR details it says you should have a practical experience and it should show your contribution in the organisation. but during my training I have only learned the working and manufacturing process of the organisation. So, Please help me how can I asses my degree. and how to get back in the technical field.

Regards

Mohammad - It takes about 12 - 16 weeks for an assessment application to be processed provided it is complete and correctly filled out. Obviously it will take longer if Engineers Australia have to ask questions to clarify your application. Apply as a professional engineer. If Engineers Australia do not think you meet the professional engineer requirements they will classify you as an engineering technologist without the need to make a separate application. This is what they mean where they tell about assessing you as something lower..

Hi Mr. Ian,

I am a jordanian engineer having a bachlor degree of chemical engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology, I have 10 years experience as a production manager of a polyurethane insulation foam plant, I want to immigrate to australia and I would like to know what best suits my assessment as a professional engineer or engineer technologist or what?
does take too much time to have a result? and after going through their booklet they are saying that if I am not assessed as what I applied for, they are telling that I might be assessed to sthg lower, do you know like what?

thank you

Hi Ian,

If it also assists, the years I attended these programs are as follows;

Civil Engineering Technology (2000-2003)
Bachelor of Civil Engineering Infrastructure Technology (2006-2010)

The degree program was taken part-time while I was employed in my field on a full-time basis.
